Lots of people on the loop, but we only saw a handful on the way up to the falls. we walked the opposite way around the lake to make it longer.Excellent easy trail with amazing waterfall you can choose multiple spots to bath in if you’d like :)I love finding waterfalls, this one is the most beautiful one I have seen so far, the path is narrow, Location & Directions. difficult section walking along the side of a dirt hill, not really a trail and you’re scrambling, sliding on dirt. Loved this hike but the trail is washed out- so you need to get wet to get to the falls. If you are looking for a great ice cold swimming hole to cool off from a hot Arizona summer, this is your place. Hike upstream (follow the dark blue line on the map) and boulder hop up to the confluence of Ellison Creek and the East Verde River. View this location in Google Earth so we turned back and went around the lake.

Not recommended for young children but as a senior I didn't have a problem. Follow the trail and scramble down the rocks to the river (Green Line on the Map) and follow the river downstream to the confluence of the East Verde River and Ellison Creek. We were able to use our trail location on the map to make sure we were in the right spot, which was needed as there are no trail markers.

But for inexperienced cow people they would have been scared. Does involve two creek crossings so be prepared with waterproof boots or be okay with wet feet.

Had my binoculars, but these trails are so well travelled you won’t encounter much wildlife so I didn’t add any new birds to my list. Follow the creek upstream (Green Line) until you reach the pool. On the way back they were on the trail so they had to be pushed, and some cow/calves for separated which didn’t sound so good to my son who was scared.

A couple of creek crossings circumvented this. Not good for small kids or elderly, I think you can cross the river and bypass it but we decided to scramble it instead! They don't get cold until they get out and the breeze makes the goose bumps erupt over every exposed body part.  Apply towel, problem solved.This is a very popular swimming hole on the weekends.  If you want a more private oasis then head up during the weekdays. It is mainly a recreation area, offering camping, swimming and fishing.
