It also seeks to increase consumption efficiency of individuals and corporates by 40 per cent. The strategy targets an energy mix that combines renewable, nuclear and clean energy sources to meet the UAE’s economic requirements and environmental goals as follows:The UAE government aims to invest AED 600 billion by 2050 to meet the growing energy demand and ensure a sustainable growth for the country’s economy. Nuclear power releases nothing but warm water; Barakah, it is calculated, will save the atmosphere from 21 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year, equal to removing 3.2 million cars from the roads each year – a significant gesture from a country that historically is regarded as having one of the world’s biggest carbon footprints. The benefit to the environment does not stop there. Plant embodies nation's ambitions and leaders' long-term vision, writes James LangtonThree hours and nearly 300 kilometres west of the centre of Abu Dhabi, the space between shimmering desert and dusty sky resolves into a series of massive concrete domes. These are the reactor buildings of the Barakah nuclear power station and their effect is more than just on the landscape of Al Dhafra region. These national reviews have been supported by more than 40 assessments and peer reviews by the IAEA and Wano. The site is geologically stable and free of earthquake risk. “They are the engine for the future’s accomplishments.”Mohamed Al Hammadi, chief executive of Enec, said the plant will provide the backbone of the UAE’s energy supplies, complementing sources such as natural gas and the developing solar sector, but uniquely able to generate power night and day for up to 18 months without a break. It will also do so in an environmentally friendly way. The UAE is the first Arab country to produce nuclear energy, after it was announced on Saturday that Unit 1 of the Abu Dhabi-based Barakah nuclear power plant is now operational. U.ae

The UAE continues to set the pace in reducing the cost of producing solar energy. It will increase this target to 25 per cent by 2030 and 75 per cent by 2050.The UAE is installing nuclear power plants to meet its electricity needs. In 2017, the UAE launched ‘Energy Strategy 2050’, which is considered the first unified energy strategy in the country that is based on supply and demand. These targets, and the predicted savings of Dh700bn, will depend in great part on the success of Barakah.“The good thing about nuclear power,” said Mr Al Hammadi, “is that from a security point of view it is a clean, safe, reliable source of energy.”The power plant will produce enough electricity to cover 25 per cent of the country’s energy needs.
In June 2010 UAE had 6th top global proved oil reserves, about 100 billion barrels, behind UAE was 4th top crude oil net exporter (108 Mt in 2008) and 10th top crude oil producers (120 Mt in 2009).UAE has 7th top global proved natural gas reserves, above 6 trillion cubic metres.
