I've been with some wonderful women, and still realized that being bound to another as a significant other was not for me. Which was wrong, but my so-called "friends" never listened; my wonderful single life experience in college consisted of many hang-outs with my friends and getting introduced to one of their friends meant I was pretty much introduced as the ice queen and they were warned to not touch me ever. Men do not do well living alone as it's their wives who take "care" of them in most cases which can extend their lives. The world needed disposable men to work the life shortening jobs and for human sacrifices in war - and women needed men to survive financially. My dad was just a punching bag for my mother's misery and her angry outbursts, and we kids were targets of her rage as well. Couple friends are often phonies who exist to placate your own belief in coupledom, those people were never going to stick by you if you coupledom ceases to exist. My parents had a happy marriage until "death do us part" yet from a very early age I knew I would never marry. This happens not just for the obvious reasons that they have a second person who perhaps could support them in the event of a job loss or a decrease in income; and that, when couples are sharing a place and singles are not, the couples benefit from “economies of scale” because they split the rent or mortgage, the utilities, and all the other household expenses.
