His father is kidnapped and Stefan is enlisted by his mysterious cousin, Christian Drosselmeyer, to find a mythical nut to save a princess who has been turned into a wooden doll. Every so often a book comes along that blows one away. It is a dark piece of fiction which has unique and mysterious characters being part of an equally unique and mysterious story line. The position of the Toymaker in the novel creates an even darker allegory.
