New York regulators denied a necessary permit for a the Williams Pipeline earlier this year that would have brought fracked natural gas into New York City from Pennsylvania.

The pipeline is an extension of an existing pipeline that provides natural gas that has been extracted through fracking in Pennsylvania.The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation rejected the pipeline extension Friday evening, claiming it would harm New York’s water quality.The rejection was a major victory for environmentalists who had opposed it. It would have carried natural gas that had been fracked from Pennsylvania to parts of New York City.
